Our Blue Ridge, Georgia RV Adventure

Brasstown Bald lookout near Blue Ridge, Georgia

Blue Ridge, Georgia, proved to be the ideal starting point for our two-month RV adventure back to Colorado. Nestled along the Toccoa River at the Blue Ridge KOA, our campsite offered a stunning view that made every moment special. The cooler nights were a refreshing change from Florida's late summer heat, and the view from our RV's big living room window was breathtaking.

The village of Blue Ridge felt like something straight out of a postcard, with its charming historic buildings and the scenic Blue Ridge Railroad rolling through town. Its artsy vibe and pet-friendly atmosphere made it an even better fit for us. It was delightful to explore the local galleries and shops with our furry family member, Gracie, adding warmth to our stay.

A must-do in Blue Ridge is the drive up the winding mountain road to Brasstown Bald, the highest point in Georgia at nearly 5,000 feet above sea level. While the views can be a bit hazy this time of year, the distant outlines of the mountains in North and South Carolina and Tennessee are still impressive. In the winter, the crisp air reveals the skyline of Atlanta, a full 100 miles away.

On our way back to the campground, we took a detour up a dirt road to Helton Creek Falls. Known as "the land of a thousand waterfalls," this spot was a highlight of our trip. The short hike, barely a quarter-mile, led us to a stunning waterfall where we couldn't resist wading in the cool, clear water. A tip for future visitors: a swimsuit is a must!

Our final adventure in Blue Ridge was a visit to Mercier Orchards, a 300-acre family farm renowned for its delicious strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, peaches, and apples. We enjoyed a tractor ride to a ridgeside apple orchard, picked our own apples, and then indulged in lunch and shopping at their expansive market. It was the perfect way to cap off our Blue Ridge experience.
