Exploring Tennessee and Arkansas with our Fifth Wheel

We pulled our fifth wheel out of Blue Ridge, Georgia, with our sights set on Russellville, Arkansas, where we planned to stay several nights to explore the waterfalls of the Ozark National Forest. The pavement in between was simply the means to an end, or at least that’s what we thought. Little did we know that we would decide to stop for a night just a few miles from Loretta Lynn’s home at Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.

One of the things we love most about traveling the country by RV is discovering the unexpected.  The I-40 exit where we decided to grab a campsite just happened to be an easy 10-minute drive from the Loretta Lynn Ranch, once considered one of the most prominent attractions in Tennessee.   If we had known better, we would have pulled the RV a few extra miles and stayed an additional night at the Full Hookup on-site RV park.  This is the Ranch where Loretta raised her family during the busiest years of her country music career.  Today, it is home to museums, including her Antebellum Mansion, a Grist Mill, and a replica of the Butcher Holler home she grew up in as a “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”

Russellville, Arkansas, is strategically located near dozens of waterfalls. However, you have to go during the wet season to fully experience their beauty.  Our early September visit could have been better-timed, and water runoff was reduced to a trickle, but the drive through the rolling hills and back roads made the excursion worthwhile.
